Ukraine: intensification of bombardment on civilian infrastructure
By Article 36
On 9 October, the International Network on Explosive Weapons (INEW) (which Article 36 is a member of and coordinates) noted its deep concern at the intensification of bombardment on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine since July 2024.
In a statement highlighting 20 incidents, INEW once again called on parties in conflict to stop the use of explosive weapons with wide-area effects in populated areas and call on Russia and Ukraine to join Political Declaration on Strengthening the Protection of Civilians from the Humanitarian Consequences Arising from the Use of Explosive Weapons in Populated Areas and take steps to immediately implement its commitments, including restricting and refraining from the use of explosive weapons in populated areas when such use is expected to cause harm to civilians and civilian objects.
